The garment export industry in India is very concerned about the potential for the United States to be included in the blacklist of TVPRA. The United States will announce this list in September 2010.

In September 2009, the U.S. government included India in this list. Since then, Indian garment exporters have made efforts to clean up the disgrace of employing child labor.

The highest institution of clothing exporters, the AEPC, recently drafted a rule of compliance with global industry rules. At the same time, it also hired an American lawyer to lobby for India.

The United States is the largest market for textile and apparel exports from India. If India were once again included in the TVPRA blacklist, it could have a serious impact on the apparel industry in India.

Officials of the Indian government and the Indian Garment Export Promotion Association recently visited Washington and met with officials of the US Department of Labor to make final efforts to save the reputation of the garment export industry in India. Their goal is to prevent India from appearing on the US TVPRA blacklist for the second consecutive year.
