Due to changes in taxation methods, Jordan's winter clothing will increase sharply

As Jordanian Customs has adopted a taxation method combining specific taxes and ad valorem taxes on imported clothing, relevant sources predict that Jordan's winter clothes prices will generally rise by 20% to 80% this year.

Recently, the Jordanian Customs decided to change the method for the collection of imported ad valorem duties in the past. Instead, it combines a specific tax and an ad valorem tax, that is, a Jordanian dinars (approximately US$1.412) per kilogram. A tax or a 5% ad valorem tax on the total value of imports is selected as the highest of ad valorem taxes. Winter clothes are often heavy. Therefore, according to specific taxes, winter clothing importers will pay more taxes, which will directly lead to winter prices.

The cost of living in Jordan is high and the apparel market has been sluggish. The winter price increase due to customs taxation will undoubtedly hit the clothing market in Jordan.
